for years: the zine is an 18+ community diy zine and DLC celebrating four years of dimilix. whether you used to keysmash fraldarddyd and hope for the best, or you literally cannot believe felix carried his restless king to bed just last week, we're excited to celebrate by making the dimilix that lives in your heart!in the spirit of our classic diy zine ancestors, we aim to be a chill lofi zine that encourages the simple sheer joy of creation. sketch a little something. write 30 pages of fic. write a drabble. design a dimilix marriage certificate. design a dimilix breakup certificate. edit screenshots into a mary oliver punk collage of feelings. and of course, traditional zine submissions are welcome! as long as what you create brings you dimilix joy.also in the spirit of a classic diy zine, this will be available for free for readers to print themselves and perhaps add a little something of their own to it. bookbind it; scrapbook it; colour it to your whim; cut it up and make collages with it. remix it! there's a big communal aspect to diy zines and we encourage you to get your hands dirty! no apps, no gloss, no work limits, just that traditional communal maker space vibe but like, with dimitri and felix. possibly kissing. possibly sucking. possibly even f—ok thank you for reading let's get to making some dimilix!!!!!!!

we will be offering three basic versions of the zine: digital; self-print; and commercial print for those who just want to send it to their bureau en gros or whatever regional equivalent printer of choice.

zine specs

  • approx. 5.5" x 8.5" final dimensions

  • can be printed on standard letter printer paper

  • 18+ (sfw and nsfw works accepted)

  • black&white, with optional colour

  • available in sections that can be folded and assembled by long stapler, saddle stitching, hole puncher and string, or other less or more cursed zine binding methods

so here's the deal
one sheet of standard printer paper (letter size) will give you a total of four pages; one side of that sheet is a 2-page spread; one side of that sheet folded in half is a single page.you will be creating to these page sizes and also assembling your own zine by stacking sheets, folding them, and binding them together. and then you print out and assemble all everybody else's sections to yours and now you are holding a big beautiful dimilix diy zine in your proud paws (human neutral).there are no work limits, just dimilix <3

Examples of how the zine is assembled. A letter-sized page is shown as a 2-page double spread; half a letter-sized page is shown as a single page. A section of letter-sized pages is also shown stacked together as an option of how to assemble your zine.

writers
must format their own fic! you will have a cryptid formatting assistant available to help you, but we highly encourage you to add your own special touch in this way too. and yes, you can force us to accept your fic that looks like a notes apology.here are some basic formatting guidelines:

  • set page size to statement size (5.5" x 8.5")

  • all margins should be approx. 0.5"

  • font size 9-11 pts (depending on font)

  • include at least your fic title in your fic!

  • don’t worry if you’re turning in a billion pages, it's all food for the dimilix community

  • if you're using gdocs, page size and margins can be changed under file > page setup)

artists
these specs are more like goals. ideals, if you will. hope for the best, etc, etc.

  • single page: 5.5" x 8.5"

  • 2-page spread: 11" x 8.5"

  • bleed: 0.25" all sides

  • gutter safety margin: approx. 0.25"

  • colour art will not be converted to grayscale, but please check that you are satisfied with how it looks in grayscale

  • 300 DPI

please note there is no true bleed because standard printers can't print to the edge of the paper. the self-print versions will be formatted either with a standard white margin (or otherwise upon request). the commercial version will have a traditional bleed where applicable.

all creators are encouraged to also create outside of both art and fic
we will also be running chill no stress community collab events such as telephone and round robin collage where you can create outside of your usual lane, so please bring your best (worst) dimilix thoughts!

how to join is easy! there are no apps, just a discord server for creators. we called it a little dimilix maker space and we meant it!so: people coming together and making things together or separately! and just like a maker space, you can choose how you want to participate: build ideas with others; join one of the chill community collab events we run; or just do your own thing and show up one day with 100 pages of fic gripped tight in both hands for lin to format (me typing this out very nervously). like honestly it's all good! the important thing is you're having a very cool and excellent time.we are also here to encourage, brainstorm, learn how to make new things, offer resources and formatting assistance, and just general dimilix derangement.join the discord server here!

submission guidelines
we are currently accepting submissions to the zine DLC, which is a fun and fresh little follow-up! please use this form here until September 20th, 2023. you do not have to be a member of the server to submit your work—our only requirement is that you follow our guidelines:

  • submit new and original work only

  • no extreme content

  • name your files like this: creator name - work title - n/sfw - page number, e.g. dmlxintern - fridge poetry - nsfw - 01
